Twin Cities Funeral Singers is a collective of music therapists and musicians that specialize in providing a holistic and personalized music service that adequately reflects and celebrates the life of your loved one.
Our Mission
Our mission is to work with families, funeral homes, and churches to provide the exact amount of support that each family needs by providing a service catered to fit each family.
Twin Cities Funeral Singers is the first and only business that brings the experience and knowledge of music therapists and musicians together to provide a music service for funerals. Most people are affected strongly by music. As a music therapist, I have seen first hand how a favorite song or piece of music can anchor and hold so many emotions. Our intent is to use our skills to create the space for families and friends to grieve and mourn in the music.
Our Services
1
Funeral Singer
The musician or music therapist will complete a musical offering during the funeral service. This service includes leading up to two hymns and singing a solo as requested.
2
Ambient Music
The musician or music therapist will provide ambient music prior to and after the service. The music could include instrumental versions of preferred genres or relaxing instrumental music.
3
Preplanning
The party preplanning their service will have a phone call with a music therapist to plan a more specific and specialized music service. This could include selecting instruments, songs to share ambient music, or a specific arrangement of songs or instruments.
4
Burial Service Singer
The musician or music therapist will sing a song or hymn of your choosing during the burial service. We will coordinate with you and whoever is planning the burial service.
5
Visit with a Music Therapist
This service is meant for individuals and their families that are preplanning music for their funeral. A Board Certified Music Therapist will make an in-person visit to help plan the service. The therapist will guide the family through the process and offer supportive music in person during this time. A visit with a music therapist can also happen after the funeral.
6
Legacy
Project
Having a Legacy Project can be a great way to honor your loved one. This could be a video compiled of your loved one's picture set to their favorite songs. It could be a personalized song written specifically for your loved one. Legacy Projects are meant to be individualized.
7
Follow-up
Care Call
If requested, a music therapist with bereavement experience will follow up with you after the funeral time has passed. If more support is needed, we will provide you with resources specific to your needs.
8
Videography
Services
If you are interested in having the funeral documented via video, we are in contact with multiple videographers. If you are wanting something along the lines of a legacy project with video from the funeral we are more than happy to work with you to create something special.
Who We Are
We are a collection of talented musicians but also a collection of caring people want to facilitate the funeral process with love and thoughtfulness.
Twin Cities Funeral Singers creates an emotional and memorable experience. The article, "Music as Consolation—The Importance of Music at Farewells and Mourning," from The Omega Journal of Death and Dying, found the role of music in farewell rituals to be important for the grieving process in many ways. Music can be associated with positive memories of the loved one and bring those positive experiences into people's minds and hearts. Selecting farewell music with relatives can assist in the grieving process by giving the family purpose and ownership. We at TCFS hope to help facilitate this process to help comfort and console before, during, and after the funeral and bereavement.
Our Story...
"Twin Cities Funeral Singers was started after singing for funerals during my time as a hospice music therapist. I fell in love with the entire process. Not only singing and playing at a funeral but talking with the families and preplanning funeral music with them and my patients. Seeing one of my patients close her eyes while weeping, smiling and singing the songs she had chosen for her funeral is an image that will always be with me. I do hospice music therapy because I love music and I love helping people. I know that when I talk with families and help with music at funerals that I am doing important and impactful work."
